(CurlManitoba Release) The two defending champion teams have repeated the accomplishment by winning the 2025 Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Championships in Gimli.
In the Men’s championship event, Randy Neufeld (Dean Moxham, Peter Nicholls, Dale Michie, Larry Borus) won a pair of games Sunday. They had taken their first loss Saturday evening to drop into the Sunday morning semifinal where they posted a 5-4 win over Clarence Kohut (East St. Paul).
Former champion Murray Warren (Brandon) had won the Page 1 vs 1 Playoff game Saturday over Neufeld but the result of the re-match was different. The defending champions were able to score deuces while holding their opponents to singles enroute to a 7-2 victory.
It is the third consecutive championship for the team from La Salle although with a slight line-up change. Dean Moxham replaced Darren Oryniak who was in the line-up for the first two titles.
In the Women’s championship game, Karen Fallis and her Fort Rouge team (Maureen Bonar, Lynn Fallis-Kurz, Jill Proctor) opened with a three but trailed Debbie McCreanor (Charleswood) 4-3 after four ends. A four on the fifth end gave the defending champions an insurmountable lead. The final score was 8-5.
The Fort Rouge team also had a single line-up change from their victory a year ago with Proctor replacing Laurie Ellwood at lead.
DAY 4 SUMMARY: MANITOBA’S CREDIT UNIONS MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS: It took an extra end in the Page Playoff 1 vs 1 game, but Murray Warren (Brandon) has advanced to the Sunday 1:00PM final of the Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Men’s championship in Gimli. Warren defeated previously unbeaten Randy Neufeld (La Salle) 5-4 in their Saturday evening game.
Trailing 4-2 coming home, Warren scored two to tie the game and force the extra end, then stole a single point for the victory.
The game matched up the last four Manitoba Masters champions: Neufeld won the title in 2024 and 2023 while Warren’s team won the 2022 and 2020 championship.
Neufeld will play Clarence Kohut (East S. Paul) in the Sunday morning 10:00AM semi-final.
Kohut was the survivor of the four-team playoff for that semi-final berth. The East St. Paul team, defeated Curtis McCannell (Pilot Mound) 4-2 in the Page Playoff 2 vs 2 game. Earlier, Kohut had beaten Barry Lowes (Virden) 6-2 while McCannell was a 6-5 winner over Paul Kruk (Souris)
In the Women’s championship, the final game Sunday will feature Deb McCreanor (Charleswood) challenging defending champion Karen Fallis (Ft. Rouge). McCreanor advanced with a semifinal win Saturday evening, 8-5 over Kathy Isaac (Hamiota). The final is set for 1:00PM Sunday in Gimli.
DAY 3 SUMMARY: MANITOBA’S CREDIT UNIONS MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS: The defending champions are the only unbeaten teams in the Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Championships underway in Gimli.
Karen Fallis and her Fort Rouge team have competed their four-game round robin with a perfect 4W-0L record and will advance to the Sunday 1PM final game. Second place in the standing will be determined in play Saturday.
Kathy Isaac’s Hamiota team, who lost Friday to Fallis (7-5) has a 2W-1L record and will finish second with a win Saturday over Norma Purdy (Assiniboine Memorial). The third playoff position will go to the winner of a Saturday game between Leanne Haight (Brandon and Deb McCreanor (Charleswood).
In the Men’s championship Randy Neufeld’s LaSalle team stayed perfect with wins Friday over Clarence Kohut (East St. Paul) and Laurie Hogg (Assiniboine Memorial). Kohut and Paul Kurk (Souris) continue to share second place in the pool with 4W-2L records.
Murray Warren’s Brandon team split their games Friday with a win over Curtis McCannell (Pilot Mound) and a 5-2 loss to Gord MacKay (Pembina). MacKay also defeated Grant Shewfelt (Baldur) to improve to a 4W-2 L record and share second place in the pool. Also at 4W-2L is Barry Lowes (Virden) with wins Friday over Rob Atkins (East St. Paul) and Bob Minaker (East St. Paul).
DAY 2 SUMMARY: MANITOBA’S CREDIT UNIONS MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS: Four teams remain unbeaten at the Manitoba’s Credit Unions Masters Championships in Gimli.
Randy Neufeld’s defending champions from LaSalle and former champion Murray Warren and his Brandon team lead their respective pools in the Men’s championship competition with perfect 4W-0L records.
Previously unbeaten Curtis McCannell (Pilot Mound) lost 7-6 on an extra end Thursday evening to Barry Lowes (Virden). McCannell sits alone in second pace in the Asham Ultra Force pool with a 3W-1L record.
In the Asham pool, Paul Kruk (Souris) and Clarence Kohut (East St. Paul) share second place in the standings at 3W-1L. Kruk had lost to Neufeld on opening day but defeated Kohut Thursday afternoon.
In the Women’s competition, Karen Fallis (Fort Rouge) and Kathy Isaac (Hamiota) stayed perfect with wins Thursday. Fallis, at 3W-0L, is the leader with Isaac a win behind at 2W-0L. The two will meet on the 4PM draw Friday.

Neufeld, who won both the 2023 and 2024 Masters titles, and Clarence Kohut (East St. Paul) both won their two games on opening day to lead the Asham Group of the men’s championship with 2W-0L records.
In the Asham Ultra Force Group, 2020 & 2022 champion Murray Warren (Brandon) and Curtis McCannell (Pilot Mound) lead the way, also with 2W-0L records.
The 16-team men’s competition is being played in two pools of eight teams. Six teams will advance to playoffs, three from each pool. The first place teams meet in the 1 vs 1 Page Playoff while the second and third place teams play a crossover to determine the two teams which play in the 2 vs 2 Page playoff game.
A pair of 2024 champion teams are on top of the five-team women’s championship. The defending Masters champion Fallis team won two games Wednesday for a 2W-1L record. Manitoba’s 2024 Senior Women’s champion Kathy Isaac (Hamiota) team played only one game on the first day but won it for a 1W-0L record.
Three teams will advance from the round-robin into playoffs in the women’s competition with a semi-final Saturday evening and a Sunday afternoon final game.
