2002 Team Hamblin Into Sport Hall of Fame

David Hamblin's 2002 World Junior Champions are the 9th Manitoba curling team to be inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.

Skip David Hamblin, third Ross Derksen, second Kevin Hamblin and Coach Lorne Hamblin attended the April 26 Central Region Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Fifth Doug Hamblin stood in for Lead Ross McCannell at the Portage ceremony.

The newest Sports Hall of Fame team is pictured receiving their honours from event title sponsor CanadInns representative Khari Jones.

Coach Lorne Hamblin, who became a member of the Sports Hall of Fame along with his team, is the first curling team coach to be honoured along with a curling team in either the Sports Hall of Fame or the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame.

The team was saluted for their 2002 run through the provincial (5-2 record, defeated Dan Kammerlock in the final); Canadian (9-3 record, defeated Quebec in the final); and World (8-1 record, defeated Sweden in the final) championships.

The Hamblin Team was inducted along with the 1972-1973 Centennial Cup chanmpion Portage Terrier hockey team; sports builders Addie Bell (Hockey), Jim Mutcheson (Baseball), and Ralph Rowley (Basketball/Tennnis) ; and athletes Juanita Clayton (Softball), Karen Doell (Softball), Glen Harmon (Hockey), Greg Haydenluck (Athletics/BobSleigh), Dennis Hextall (Hockey), Jim Ioanidis (Tennis), and Dot Rose (Curling/Softball).

Curling teams previously inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame include:
